Core Responsibilities

Stay in communication with your Field Organizer

  • Through regular meetings (usually virtual) to strategize and learn and through asynchronous communication like email or text.

Commit to the time needed to build a team. This commitment generally requires around 4 hours per week / 15-20 hours per month. This is the time it takes to support a local team and build power against the massive animal agriculture industry. Here is a guide for how those hours break down:

  • 4-5 hrs/month meeting with Field Organizer (weekly meeting)
  • 2-3 hrs/month creating local strategy, hosting team meetings (team meetings should happen at least once per month)
  • 5-6 hrs/month doing recruitment/outreach/connecting with team members
  • 3-4 hrs/month hosting corporate campaign events (protests, action meetups, and others based on the strategy for our current campaign targets)
  • 1-2 hrs/month meeting with other local groups (attend events, have 1:1s with leaders of other groups)

Identify, recruit, and lead individuals in your area to grow a local team of changemakers, with the support of your THL Field Organizer.

  • Host a monthly meeting with your team leaders to strategize and plan actions.
  • This includes using the relational organizing skills you'll learn as a captain to have 1:1 conversations with people in your community.

Empower others to take on leadership roles within the community.

  • Organize activities and events (or recruit other volunteers to do so) to support national and local campaigns.
  • Consistently take campaign actions*and encourage others to do the same.
  • Captains should complete digital actions every week on the Fast Action Network Platform, and on-the-ground actions in collaboration with your field organizer.
